We often hear that health and wellness is about “eating better” or “moving more,” and while those habits are often what we’re trying to make stick, real change that lasts starts somewhere deeper.

As a Health & Wellness Coach and host of the Wellness in a Chaotic World podcast, there’s a theme I run into repeatedly, and that’s the idea that knowing what to do isn’t the same as knowing how to make it work in real life.

When “Just Try Harder” Falls Short

We’ve been trained to think that we just need more willpower or commitment to stick with healthy changes, but that’s a myth that often keeps people stuck in a downward spiral of self-criticism and learned helplessness. The “stuck” cycles of “start strong, then stall out,” happen not because people are lazy or undisciplined, but because the path they’re following doesn’t fit their life, their rhythms, or their values. In other words, if you absolutely hate running or eating green beans, you’re not going to follow through on goals like running twice a week or adding two servings of green beans to your meals each week.

It's Normal to Resist What We Say We Want

The myth of willpower isn’t the only thing standing in your way when it comes to meeting new health goals. When one part of you wants to feel or look better, and another part resists giving up old comforts, thoughts, or routines—that’s called ambivalence. This tension is completely normal. And with the right support, exploring ambivalence can be a doorway to sustainable, meaningful progress. As a health coach, I guide clients as they do this kind of inner work, helping them explore their vision for a healthier lifestyle, their “why” behind that vision, and the ambivalence that often shows up when their trying to change their habits.

Coaching That Honors All of Who You Are

I’m here to walk alongside clients as they create habits that nurture their whole health and rebuild trust in themselves as the true experts of their own lives. Our work together is grounded in evidence-based behavior change strategies, the cultivation of self-awareness and self-compassion, and a deep respect for personal autonomy. Wellness isn’t about perfection, it’s about showing up for yourself, one choice at a time, in a way that honors who you are.
