Owner Michelle O’Connor has grown her business around curating a wide variety of styles and helping oversee personalized service. Use of a local workroom offers the services of an upholsterer and seamstress. In addition, her connections with flooring, carpet and wallpaper installers allow Michelle to make your vision a reality. If you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for in the store Michelle can also source custom decor pieces that can be tailored to your space and style.

From CPA to Business Owner

With a background in public and private accounting, Michelle returned to the workforce after taking several years off to start her family. She took on the role as a business manager for a small home interior business which turned into a partnership of a retail shop. Several years later, Michelle embraced the opportunity to open her own store. “When the opportunity arose, I took the chance,” she says.

While running a small business comes with its challenges, the rewards of meeting and engaging with customers make it worthwhile.

Michelle cites Cazenovia’s small business community as being key to her and the store's growth. “I’ve learned so much from my fellow business owners and I love that everyone is open to helping each other.

The Caz business community has been integral in growing my business.” Michelle adds, “What I love most about being a part of downtown Cazenovia is the sense of connection. We’re not just business owners, we’re neighbors, friends and collaborators. That spirit of support is what makes this community so special.”

A Boutique That Inspires

Since opening a year and a half ago, Decor & More has quickly become a shop sought out by Central New Yorkers. Customers come not only from local upstate areas but also from across the country and around the world while they vacation in the area. Some come in search of a specific piece, while others stop by just to browse, chat about a home project or to gather ideas for their own spaces.

“I love when people come in for inspiration,” Michelle says. “I change the store frequently to give customers new ideas for their own homes. Whether someone leaves with a bag in hand or just a spark of inspiration, that’s a win in my book.”

Looking Ahead

As Decor & More continues to grow, Michelle sees the boutique evolving into a shopping destination.
