Join CPF for a Lantern-Lit Snowshoe Hike - Saturday, Feb 7th at 5:00 p.m.

Come experience the beauty of the season with a magical hike through the snowy woods at our Lantern-Lit Snowshoe Hike, part of Cazenovia’s Winter Fest Celebration. The hike will start and end at Meier’s Creek Brewing Co. (33 Rippleton Rd. in Cazenovia, NY). If you are new to snowshoeing, be sure to read our Snowshoe FAQs, below.


  • Date & Time: Saturday, February 7th, at 5 p.m.

  • Location: Meet at Meier’s Creek Brewing Company; then hike with CPF guides on the Fairchild Hill Trail.

  • Cost: This family-friendly event is freeof charge and open to the public.

  • Registration: If you plan to attend, please fill out the online registration form. All adults must fill out this form for themselves and their minor children,prior to participating in this event.

  • Snowshoes: Bring your own! Or, borrow a pair from a friend or family member. Our limited stock of lendable snowshoes (courtesy of the Friends of Stoney Pond) has already been reserved for this hike. However, if the trails have minimal snow or are well packed, you're welcome to participate wearing snow boots. Before heading to the hike, check CPF's event page for same-day trail updates.

  • Refreshments: After the hike, warm up by the fire pits at Meier's Creek where you can purchase chili and hot cocoa, or opt for the special $20 all-you-can-eat buffet. Their special "FROSTY" brewwill be on tap for $8, with $1 per pour donated to support CPF.

  • Just For the Kids: Our hike sponsors, Chary Griffin and Cindy Haaf Murphy of Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices, will be giving away crayons, coloring books, and glo sticks.


Lantern Options:


🏮 Create your own lantern at the CazArts 2-Day Lantern-Making Workshop on January 31 and February 1 (the weekend before the hike). Sign up at cazarts.com/carpenters_barn-classes.html.


🏮 Buy a DIY Lantern Kit at Cazenovia Artisans at 39 Albany Street, Cazenovia. Kits come with directions and all supplies—$10 (cash only, please). Please note: The lanterns require some drying time, so be sure to make yours a few days before the hike.


🏮 Bring your own lantern. For safety reasons, no glass or flames are allowed on the trails, so be sure your lantern is safe for outdoor use. Add a small bell or chime to your lantern for a festive touch!


Good to know: Lanterns are not required in order to participate in the hike. And, if you can’t make the hike, you’re still welcome to purchase a DIY lantern kit or take part in the lantern-making workshop—no hike participation required.
