Visit Lorenzo State Historic Site – May 15 – October 12, 2026
Lorenzo State Historic Site is the 1807 Federal style home of John Lincklaen, Holland Land Company agent and founder of Cazenovia. It was continually occupied by family until the property and contents were conveyed to New York State in 1968. The imprint of Lorenzo’s residents, including the enslaved people, servants, and many employees required to run the estate, can be found at every turn. Visitors to Lorenzo enjoy guided tours of the Mansion furnished with 160 years of original furnishings. The last tour leaves at 4:00pm. Explore the Visitor Center for the history of Cazenovia, building of Lorenzo, and an amazing carriage and sleigh display. Visit the museum shop for a unique selection of Lorenzo merchandise, books, and gift items. The grounds are open daily, year-round, dawn until dusk to stroll through the Ellen Shipman-designed formal garden and Dark Aisle Arboretum or hike the connective trail through the 87-acre site.
HOURS: Wednesday through Sunday and Monday holidays, 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with the last tour beginning at 4:00 PM. Visitor Center and museum shop are open during these hours.

Revisit the Revolution: Lorenzo’s America 250th Speaker Series
Dr. Jane E. Calvert Presents: John Dickinson and the Creation of American Independence
Dr. Jane E. Calvert, Founding Director and Chief Editor of The John Dickinson Writings Project, tells us that “if Americans today know anything about John Dickinson, it is only that he refused vote on or sign the Declaration of Independence.” Historians have felt justified in excluding Dickinson from the story of the American Founding without understanding his decision. But this omission has deprived the public of one of the most compelling elements of the Revolution—a story of selfless and steady leadership that not only made the Declaration of Independence possible but also created the reality of American independence over the critical years before and after the Declaration. Dr. Calvert received her PhD in early American history from the University of Chicago in 2003. Her work focuses on the intersection of theology and political thought in the Colonial and Founding eras, especially theories and practices of rights advocacy and resistance to governmental oppression. This event is part of a series that will be held the first Thursday of each month through November. It is made possible by funding from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the partnership and support of the Friends of Lorenzo and Meier’s Creek Brewing Company. Admission is free.
